Dear Newcomer,
Hello! On behalf of the Officers’ Spouses’ Club, I welcome you to Dover Air Force Base. Delaware is a small state, yet, the nation’s First State and rich with history. The community is extremely warm and hospitable. Delaware is one of the best-kept secrets of the northeast. And, its location, one of the Mid-Atlantic States, is close in proximity to many, many must-see places and must-do activities.
The Dover Officers’ Spouses’ Club (DOSC) was founded years ago as a support group for military officers’ wives. Today, we maintain those high ideals for all military officers’ spouses. The club is a group of phenomenal individuals that share each other’s interests and common threads of the nomadic military life. Moving to a new base is a huge undertaking with unpacking, settling in to new schools, jobs and a community. Getting involved with the Officers’ Spouses’ Club can make this adjustment a much more positive one. It is a wonderful way to make new friends and receive moral support to ease your transition into new surroundings.
A major aspect of our group is the vast array of volunteer support we offer our base community and surrounding areas. Through our major fund-raising event, the annual OSC Craft Show, we are able to make a large number of cash donations throughout the year to many local and national organizations that enrich the lives of all military families and outside communities. Our fund-raising activities also enable us to award scholarships to graduating high school seniors and military spouses.
The Officers’ Spouses’ Club has many ongoing special activities for the varying interests of our members. These, among others, include golf, bowling, book club, scrap booking, quilting, Bunko, walking and Mah Jongg. These are offered throughout the year and you can join at any time. It is my desire that we have fun and enjoy one another’s company.
Becoming a member of the Dover Officers’ Spouses’ Club is easy. Membership is open to all spouses of active duty, retired and reserve military officers in the Air Force and other branches of the military who reside in the Dover community. Monthly dues are $4.00 payable in one installment for the year, a total of $48.00. We accept cash or checks payable to DOSC. If you have any questions, our 2nd Vice President,Elizabeth Jones, (730-1946), or our Membership chair, Shannon Bibb (331-4212), will be happy to answer them for you. If you would like to see what our club is like before joining, you are welcome to attend one of our socials without being a member. I hope you will take time to come and see what we have to offer.
I look forward to meeting you and getting to know you. . Again, welcome to Dover!
Sincerely,
Connie Adelman
